I may have missed it, but where was Canadian media on this story? All I saw or heard was a lot of both-sideism.

Could we ask for a better indicator of a failed system for workers?
Interesting tidbit for Canadian labour law and collective bargaining nerds:

Collective agreement coverage in Canada’s private sector today (15.5%) is lower than it was in 1940 (16.3%), before Canada had enacted ´modern’ Wagner-style collective bargaining legislation.

We need a working class politics that brings this fundamental issue of worker rights to the centre of the struggle for democracy.
Although the Wagner Act was once the labor movement’s “magna carta,” today it is a toothless piece of legislation that has exposed the fallacy of the labor movement’s overreliance on the legislative process. From ‪@josephamccartin.bsky.social‬:
Requiem for the Wagner Act
Signed into law 90 years ago, labor’s onetime ‘magna carta’ is now a very dead letter.

What would Canada’s reaction be if 55 Canadians had been detained by China? Or any country? At the least we would advise all Canadians to not travel to that country. Advice would be given on safety precautions, such as leaving your smart phones at home. Etc.
