Killian sat, legs dangling off the side of his ship, staring out into a field of stars and nothingness, and pondered the Cosmos. The scale of the thing! The sheer unlikelihood of any given turn of events—that he might be here, breathing recycled air, held firm by artificial gravity, conscious, aware, and not hunting, nor foraging, nor fearing death, but thinking, spending precious energy indulging in his own humanity, out here in the depths of space—that was something to be thankful for. He took a sip of his tea, stroked his hand with his thumb, and thanked himself, in turn, for taking this moment for self care in the face of adversity. Then he stood up, placed his mug down very gently, walked a few paces, and kicked a wall very hard.
