Auch wenn sie die Schule dann verlassen ist ihr Lebensweg mir nicht egal – und würden sie in eurem Wahnsinn sterben verschenkten sie doch nur ihr Potential – Nein, meine Schüler geb‘ ich nicht!

After a long walk through the forest, I stumbled onto a clearing. And there it finally was – the end of the rainbow, complete with crook of gold and leprechaun. “Congratulations” he said. “You have found me. Let’s celebrate with a pint of Porter!” After the 2nd pint, I started to feel very relaxed. After the 4th pint, Sean the Leprachaun and I were sing “The Wild Rover” arm in arm. After the 6th pint, I awoke in my bed. No trace of gold to be found. That cunning little fellow had outsmarted me again.

Sometimes, when I travel to a new city, it welcomes me with open arms, showing me around with a friendly face. Other cities remain a cipher, that, even if I put my best effort into it, I can't decode. Here I am at the main statio of yet another city. Will it let me read it or hide from me in hieroglyphs?

HERE IT IS Oliver Kleyer „HERE IT IS“ the doctor says, pointing to somewhere in the blurry CT-image. I nod understandingly, but for all I know this also could be shifting clouds or my lava lamp. „Cancer of the colon“ he tells me, then detailing the procedure of the operation, how the malign part will be removed and the remaining tissue stuck together again, reminding me of a plumber, telling me how he’s going to fix a leaking pipe. Nearly one year after the operation, everything is healing nicely, no metastasis, no side effects, all systems working. I should be rejoicing. Still, I often feel a little uneasy, there are too many uncertainties, too many „What-ifs“. I’ve had my first taste of mortality, a drink I didn’t order, a cocktail that tasted too bitter and that left me with a long hangover.
