I often fear that this country is actually going to slip into a deep, dark place just because the ones who have the power and the reach to actually do something are proving to be too chickenshit to show up when they really need to.

I’m just a girl who works at a casino in the Midwest with a dream to just comfortably support her family someday, maybe someday afford a second child. A dream to live comfortably, openly, and proudly in my queer marriage. A dream to know my partner is safe when she tells me she has to pee.

I need someone to stand up for me. I’m doing what I can to keep myself informed and sane. I’m trying to give my daughter an awesome childhood that she can look back on someday and realize that she had no idea that the country was devolving daily.

I hear call representatives and senators. Who, the ones who already aren’t doing anything?

I hear protest. When, the one hours away during the hours that I work?

I hear speak out. With what, the voice that no one hears me with?
