I am building an image generation web app with @vercel.com and @replicate.com where you will be able to generate your own images of empowerment. We will use AI systems to fight propaganda. We will transform the image of the immigrant as a criminal into images of empowerment and dignity! ✊✊✊

The image of the Latino immigrant as a criminal is a form of cognitive distortion deliberately used by those in power to manipulate public perception.

We must subvert these icons with our own. I am training an AI image model with images of Latino strength and defiance, with our fists in the air.

Power fears unity.

It is time for people to unite against the dangerous ideology that the United States is now spreading to other countries. It is gaining momentum and support with other far right, extremist groups as evidenced by Elon Musk supporting the AFD.

The year is 2025. Tech CEOs urge others to move beyond "past guilt", deny giving Nazi salutes and in the same week, begin to cozy up to the AFD, an anti immigrant party that the German judiciary has classified as a suspected extremist party. This is so wrong.

Elon Musk urges far-right German party to move beyond ‘past guilt’
The billionaire was received by cheers while addressing a rally for Alternative for Germany where he told attendees they shouldn’t be ashamed of their history.

Given the state of the country I am shifting my energy and the focus of my work to building systems that empower and help citizens remain informed, aware and united. I don't know what that looks like yet, I just know it's needed and my line has been drawn.

Enough is enough.

Thanks @rudyfraser.com, as the outlook of the country changes and propaganda systems surface, we need to fight this with decentralized anti-propaganda systems of our own. I dream of the Latino and Black community uniting in coordinated resistance, we face similar challenges 💪
This might be a good time to note that the moderated #Blackademics group is hosted on #Blacksky servers maintained by @rudyfraser.com paid for by grants and donations. Lets talk about ways provide resources for those whose work will be disrupted by 45/47 & his fuckery.

Playing around with Open WebUI, a self hosted AI platform. Pretty much like ChatGPT with RBAC admin settings and many features. Finished testing the LDAP config, works like a charm. Time to put a load balancer in from of this bad boy and test Azure auth!

My biggest lesson of 2024:

At the center of engineering, we find many tools that interact and integrate with each other. But the most import glue that holds everything together is not technology.

It's people.

Datadog pro tip: To monitor the memory usage of a specific process on Windows/Linux vs. the memory consumption of the entire system:

- Configure live process gathering
- Create a process metric based on RSS Memory %
- Name the custom process metric
- Create a monitor based on the process metric

When I was at AWS re:Invent they had booths where you could customize your AWS hoodie and I really wanted to put a Linux penguin on it and have them write:

they see me chown-ing
they hatin'

Going to turn this on soon! Anyone have any problems when enabling it on an existing cluster?

Wife overhears my meetings so much I asked her what tools I work with. She has close to zero knowledge of engineering. She said:

"Kubernetes, Datadog, Ansible, AWS, Linux"

Damn, 5/5! 🤣😂

Seeing massive usage spikes in your AWS environment?

That's actually a good sign - it means your auto-scaling is working.

The real problem is when systems scale up and never come back down.

Those "permanent peaks" are what drain your cloud budget.

Man, so many posts about cloud costs today. It's definitely becoming a problem. Time to automate the termination of unused resources this year!
I'm not saying I'm an AWS expert… but I am saying I finally tracked down the random AWS account charging me small amounts every month and closed it.

I took it recently. The course on Udemy by Stephane Maarek was very crucial as well as the practice exams. Supervised learning vs unsupervised learning is a big one. Check out this doc:

Had $53 dollars in December in AWS. I forgot I deployed a NAT gateway. Have cloud platforms found a way to capitalize on human error and forgetfulness? Yes.
...why do i have $126 in GCP bills

wtf am i even running on GCP T_T

Me when I check the cost report in Cost Explorer.
January 3, 2025 at 5:28 PM
Well, I forgot I deployed a NAT gateway last month and it cost me $33 dollars. Good thing I configured a budget report or I would have missed it 😅

What's everyone doing for Christmas? Basically, I'm turning my brain off and relaxing at home with my partner and Echo.
