When I said I wanted a snow day, I was envisioning a sleep-in and a cozy day of reading and knocking out tasks of my choosing. Instead, the family are clamoring for breakfast and we’ve got some shoveling to do while I figure out how to wfh on everyone else’s snow day. whoops.

Am I still boycotting Black Friday if I am not sure how to budget for holiday gifts this year? “Sale” prices for a lot of the things I peruse are still more than the “normal” prices of last year. Even my thrifted finds have gone up, prob bc it’s a more popular option now.

apropos of looking two years down the not-so-metaphorical road, i am reminded of my brother handling my nephew’s new driving permit by throwing him the keys almost every time they got in the car. “Do you want to drive?” “No, dad, I’m not ready!” “Ok. You’ll know when you are.” brave and calm.

The thing that I like best about the portrayal is that the writers haven’t made the diagnosis stand in for the individuality or traits of the character. decider.com/2025/02/27/t...

Ok, American peeps: please remember to call all of your reps today and tell them to vote no on RFK, Jr. Use 5calls.org if you need scripts.

Here’s a terrible picture of a good hawk, as a little treat. I couldn’t move or it would fly off. #worstbirdpics

The depth and furor of this administration’s misogyny is taking my breath away.

I am horrified by the muskovites like everyone else, but I am unfollowing anyone who talks about someone’s age or size or presumed embodiment of gender is a good way to show their lack of standing to access information or to otherwise assess their suitability. Knock off the ableism, people!

Until just now, I thought slag heap was a euphemism and not an actual thing.

Century III Mall’s demolition will plow ahead with the help of a $1M state grant.

Built over an old slag heap in 1979, it became the 3rd-largest mall in the world when it opened. It was home to more than 200 stores including multiple department store chains — Kaufmann’s, Montgomery Ward & Gimbels.

I am genuinely pretty disruptive at times, but it seems I will need a new word to describe my activities, given the bro-culture associations. Most of my disruption comes from a joy of nuance so maybe I can just entangle or complicate instead…except for when i am actually spilling things in public.

It’s not as much fun as it used to be to wear my Bedtime for Democracy/Dead Kennedys socks

I had to put a timer on my actual newspaper apps in order to preserve my mental health. I used to just use them for social media feeds. Sigh.

I find it so challenging to face the news these days…that familiar lurch of horror at a new utterance, the worry I feel about our collective health (care). It is a lot. Here is a foggy morning from a few days ago in case you need something pretty to look at.

All of the election officials at my polling place were younger women than usual, and all of the people supporting candidates outside my polling place were women with their girls.

At dinner in Houston last night, one of the guests said that he found that the new formulation of something called Bottega Venata is not like the old formulation, which he described as fresh, clean, and soapy. @alyssaharad.bsky.social and other #perfume people, can we track down a similar scent?

We always check the field across the street for signs of frost and I was surprised that today was the day! Our neighborhood usually ignores the first few freeze warnings before settling into the chill…will still be low 70s tomorrow.

My quick bathroom update for my teen, which unexpectedly included learning how to assess and plaster a hole in the ceiling has progressed to unexpectedly plastering over where the medicine cabinet used to be. Feeling pretty adventurous these days!

Because of my tendency to lurk rather than post, it took a long time to get an invite code. But I am glad to be here! Here are some summer cone flowers to celebrate.
