Todays #frog is Rosenberg’s Gladiator treefrog. It’s a little goth because the eggs it lays are black. These frogs build nests for their eggs to keep them safe, and eat ground arthropods. They definitely do not fight in battles inside a giant Roman arena.

Todays #frog is the turtle frog. This frog is like…a goblin? Turtle? Thing? It gets its name from a type of shell-less turtle it resembles. It digs into the sand and feeds on termites for food. And before you ask “where is this weird thing from?” guess. Just guess. It’s from Australia.

Todays #frog is the Tukeit Hill frog, found all around South America. They are very similar to tree frogs, except their phalanges (toes/fingers) are more similar to glass frogs, recent studies say. They live in the trees and on the ground, and Wikipedia describes them as “explosive breeders.”

Todays #frog is the corrugated water frog. These dudes live in Sri Lanka and are an aquatic frog, meaning they spend A LOT of their time in water. They are critically endangered, though scientists are leading conservation efforts currently to save this froggo. Thanks scientists!

Todays #frog is the Pleasing Poison Frog, found in the Amazon. They are super colorful to ward off predators, and although their bright colors say “danger, danger,” they are classified as extremely vulnerable due to habitat loss. Not even fun colors will save you from climate change 😞

Todays #frog is Izecksohn's Brazilian tree frog. This frog EATS FRUIT AND LIVE IN PINEAPPLES. In addition, they are the first and only amphibian that has been observed pollinating plants. I guess you can have your house and…eat it too?

Additionally asking that you share and/or send some money to Sam's family this morning. Sam was a trans man who was found dead a few days ago after being tricked online and enduring weeks of torture at the hands of violent racists (transphobic). His death is not being reported as a hate crime.

Todays #frog is the European green toad. These lads were once so populous they existed in Europe, the Middle East, and China (truly Mr. Worldwide). Now they’re mostly found in Europe. Though these frogs usually eat insects, there was a reported case of a European green toad eating a bat once. Wow.

Todays #frog is the glass frog. Glass frogs live all around South America and are see-through! When they sleep their blood is concealed in their liver so they blend in with the leaves they rest on. Glass frogs can regulate the location, density, and packaging of red blood cells without clotting. 😎

Todays #frog is the Variegated Mantella, which belongs to a family of frogs said to have begun 76-87 million years ago in Madagascar. They still live there, too, and are one of the 220 frog species endemic to Madagascar. These these frogs are toxic in the wild and they WILL hurt you.

Todays #frog is the natterjack toad. This toad can live up to 15 years, and it can run. The natterjack toad is the only species of toad native to Ireland. In 2021 the Irish gov released 6,000 toadlets into the wild in order to increase the natterjack population. Why? So they can chase you…forever.

Todays #frog is the tungara frog! These frogs are BFFs with tarantulas. How? The tungara frogs help protect tarantula eggs in tarantula burrows, and the tarantulas, in turn, protect the frogs from predators. We love symbiosis! Friendship is magic.

Todays #frog is the Zombie Narrowmouth Frog. What a weird little guy! According to the researcher who discovered this frog in the Amazon, “we chose this name because the researchers are the ones that look like zombies when they dig out the frogs from the ground.”

Todays #frog is the starry night reed frog! These frogs are native to Sub-Saharan Africa and spend their days resting on leaves and soaking up the sun. Their name comes from their uniquely patterned bodies. And they are truly STUNNING. Nature cooked here.

Today’s #frog is the cane toad. Yes, all toads are frogs. But not all frogs are toads, and not all are good. *ominous music* These guys are an invasive species, and can grow to be the size of a Chihuahua. They secrete dangerous toxins. Do not touch them. This toad is NOT your friend. Sorry. :(

Today’s #frog is the Cope's Gray Tree Frog! This frog lives in most parts of the eastern USA, blending in with the trees. These frogs have yellow markings on their legs and underbelly, too, which makes them easy to identify. The male frogs can sing for up to FOUR HOURS. Those are some horny bois.
