I made myself a purple chicken onesie (maybe I should add eyes? there is probably a reason why I hesitate to add eyes to my attire...) and this is how I plan on answering the door in the coming year […]

Went to the cinema yesterday. Kept our respirators on. The theater was pretty full (I forgot to take a screenshot of the occupancy yesterday).
Ventilation didn't kick in until CO2 went above 1000ppm.

CO2 monitor reading from about 3PM to 6:30PM
It starts off just above 800ppm climbing to above 1000ppm as we are putting on our shoes and crowd around the monitor. It then drops precipitously below 600ppm as we walk to our subway stop. On the subway it climbs all the way to 967ppm. It then drops below 600ppm again as we walk to the cinema. In the lobby of the cinema it shoots back up to 1242ppm. In the theater itself the reading goes back down to 916ppm where it slowly but steadily climbs to 1086ppm. For reference: the ads started at 4PM - 916ppm - the movie started at around 4:20PM - 992ppm - and ended at 6PM - 921ppm. You can see when the ventilation really kicked in because after the peak at 4:48PM - 1086ppm - it quickly and steadily drops down until reaching a low of 868ppm at 5:43ppm. You can then see the drop below 600ppm as we walked back to the subway station, a brief spike as we rode the subway, another dip as we walked home and then the reading inside our apartment.

The seating chart for the theater we were in yesterday. It has 106 seats. The occupancy in this image is not the same as when we went yesterday.

I followed @carmensandiego and I kept thinking some of the henchmen in "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" had great names... so... I went off to find my copy that ran on MacOS 6.0.7 or higher and it still had the booklet! (Though not the World Almanac.)

The latest wastewater sample that was sequenced was from 17 November 2025. Each variant is color coded and we can see how the variant soup make-up has changed over the weeks. Some variants come and go. But JN.1 keeps making a comeback.

The appliquéing is happening. The toe beans were fiddly but not as annoying as the eyebrows / face stripes.
Now on to the body stripes, the stripes on the tail, and the chest spots.

Kita-Verband: Kurzzeitige Erkrankungen bringen das System an die Grenzen.
Hinzu kommt: "In unserem Beruf können wir uns gegen Viren nur bedingt schützen", schreibt Kathrin Niedermeier, Referentin des Verbands Kita-Fachkräfte Bayern e.V. "Natürlich kommt es immer wieder vor, dass Kinder in der Einrichtung Symptome entwickeln. Leider beobachten wir aber auch oft, dass kranke Kinder in die Einrichtung gebracht werden." Und: Häufige kurzzeitige Erkrankungen belasten das Team sofort. "Viele kommen trotz Erschöpfung zur Arbeit, um die Kita am Laufen zu halten. Das bringt Mitarbeitende Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter – und das gesamte Kita-System – langfristig an ihre Grenzen", sagt Niedermeier.
Etwa ein Viertel der Fehltage von Menschen, die in sozialen und kulturellen Dienstleistungsberufen arbeiten, etwa Erzieherinnen, Erzieher oder Dozentinnen und Dozenten, entfiel 2024 auf Erkrankungen des Atmungssystems – also beispielsweise Nasenhöhlen, Rachen, Bronchien oder Lunge. Eine einzelne Krankschreibung wegen eines Atemwegsinfekts dauert im Schnitt sechs Tage, also über eine Arbeitswoche.

2024 waren Erkrankungen des Atmungssystems für zwanzig Prozent der Krankentage in Bayern verantwortlich. Damit zählen sie neben Erkrankungen des Muskel-Skelett-Systems oder der Psyche zu den Hauptgründen für krankheitsbedingte Fehlzeiten – deutlich mehr als etwa Verletzungen oder Verbrennungen, die in Bayern etwa elf Prozent der Krankschreibungstage ausmachen.

Also ich finde, wir hätten die Frühling/ Sommer / Herbstwelle von diesem Jahr (Mai - Oktober) ruhig weiter abflachen lassen können, bevor wir die nächste haben. But maybe that's just me.

Zeitverlauf der Corona Virusaktivität in Bayern anhand des Abwassermonitorings. Die Welle, die im Mai dieses Jahr begann und Anfang Oktober ihren Höhepunkt erreichte, war kurze Zeit gesunken, steigt aber seit dem 24. November wieder an.

Aktuelle Viruslast von Influenzaviren in Nürnberg. Die letzte Messung fand am 8.12.2025 statt.
Die Kurve für Influenza B ist total flach und ganz unten. Die Kurve für Influenza A dagegen hat Ende Oktober eine kleine Welle die am 10. November wieder bei 0 war und jetzt aber seitdem von sehr niedrig zu sehr hoch hochgeschnellt ist.
