Group members reported improvements in symptom management, social wellbeing, and feeling less alone. Moderators indirectly influenced these improvements by providing a safe space for group members to share experiences and support

We found that moderators displayed all four dimensions of identity leadership, with identity entrepreneuship (i.e., creating a sense of shared identity) seemingly having the greatest role in shaping group members' experiences.

When controlling for health outcomes at previous time points, there was often no effect of shared social identity or psychological resources on health outcomes

So, online support groups may offer support and connection, but there may be limitations to the benefits on health

We found that shared social identity consistently predicted external psychological resources (support and connection)

In longitudinal models, external resources predicted internal psychological resources (meaning and control) but only when negative posting norms were low
