He had heard ahead of time what might interest them, what might serve as payment for their services. He definitely found it odd...
It was also much easier to work with. So he wouldn't complain. Everybody is odd in their own fun way, who is he to judge?

They were backing up, good. He has no reason to do anything if they don't do anything first. Even if the run away completely, he wouldn't really give chase.
He'll just move on to the next objective on his list. One lost lead won't matter much.
