It saddens me that it feels like Pulsar: Lost Colony (Indy game made by 2 guys) and Elite Dangerous both did smuggling better. And what makes it really damning is both games the smuggling mechanic isn't very deep.

The 20 dollars is just for a custom profile tailored to your ear position. Try the trial first and decide for yourself if it's worth it.

For the first naval wave, tried to pick them off with the fort guns until I realized they were focusing on my poor sloop. That was almost a disaster.

For the second naval wave, I was prepped and able to get underway quickly. But your method makes more sense.

ouch, glad I put it aside a while ago. Was thinking of returning, but now I'm rethinking that idea.

I didn't look into these too deep, so when I attempted one over the weekend I was surprised by the additional waves of ghost ships, and it nearly did me in twice.

But.... was a fun experience - and I did prevail. I kind of wish they'd stay to be honest. Having the naval element spices things up.

I get that games cost a lot now, but I feel like the costs that need to be cut needs to start with the CEO's and execs, or maybe not push the visual fidelity any higher, I don't know. AAA is broken right now.

Since they offered a 14 day trial on the custom profile, I went ahead and set up it (little weirded out that it used my phone to capture the position of my ears, but whatever).

Difference was there but felt minimal. I have tinnitus and probably wasn't getting the full experience, TBF.

Tried the free generic profile first because the idea of "buying" a custom profile is ridiculous. (especially at 20 dollars, wtf)

Definately noticed a difference. Felt it was a little muffled, but otherwise happy with the result and will probably use it going forward.

I kind of get why it's done as the mindset of people is formed by the environment they grew up in. So, using it to understand why a certain generation may behave the way it does may be informative.
