I played and loved The Roottrees are Dead. A billionaire and his next of kin died in a plane crash. You are a genealogist tasked with reconstructing his family tree, armed with your 1998 browser and your library card.

This might be one of the most perplexing piece of technology I've seen in a while.
Somebody really went and said "what if we did a light switch that cannot be used in the dark? We could make it a lot more complex to build and fragile than normal switches too!"

I played Wednesdays. A game about child sexual abuse, its repercussions and the reconstruction afterwards.
It is obviously pretty intense, but really well done. It really uses its medium well, telling its story in a non-linear way, without overwhelming the player.
Very well written and necessary.
