This is #comet C/2025 K1 (ATLAS) from 11 December with two distinct nucleus fragments. It has changed significantly compared to my image from 22 November - and it has clearly reduced its relative speed, as I was able to expose for a little longer this time... #astrophotography 🔭

Der alte Satz: „Build it and they will come“ wurde also erneut eindrucksvoll bewiesen😊

On this day in 1945 a brave Danish Dutch diplomat drove his car into a Japanese concentration camp and saved my grandmothers and thus my life.
A thread.

It is August 15th 1945, my grandmother and her daughter (2 years old) are prisoners in Japanese concentration camp Lampersari.

So here's a thoroughly startling science story - and I promise that despite the next thing I'm about to say, it's not conspiracy-theory clickbait:

It turns out there’s a vast blob of *something* in the depths of our planet, and parts of it look a bit like a tree - and it might be ALIEN?

BEHOLD! One of Earth's greatest lineages of life: the lil wiggle arm guys, Meteora.

These single-celled critters, originally found in deep-sea sediments, are SO DIFFERENT from other lifeforms on Earth that they're likely in their own kingdom (as in, the Animal Kingdom, the Plant Kingdom etc). 🧪🌿

The past three days of AR 4114 - look how rapid the evolution of this sunspot group has been! It's frankly mesmerizing to see these kinds of movies...

AR 4114 now has an unstable beta-gamma-delta magnetic field with a 25% chance of an X-flare in the next day.

The tragic landslide in Blatten gives me the excuse to tell you the story of how we found out Ice Ages existed. It's a cool story and the most important bit is rather similar to what's happening now.
