If you could pass this on to the expert you had on @moneybox.bsky.social . This is @freddienew.bsky.social sending members of the FCA at the Labour Party conference a bitcoin transaction, 'instantly' via Bitcoin's layer 2.0 Lightning network. Stephenson would have been proud. British innovation!

Cambridge uni is actually waaay behind the curve on this. The innovation sharp end is moving far more rapidly towards carbon neutral and even net beneficial via methane usage and heat co location.

Bitcoin in the bush - the crypto mine in remote Zambia. We visit a bitcoin project on the Zambezi river making use of 'stranded electricity'. The company behind it wants to start building its own renewable plants for mining and to spread electricity in Africa. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

On my way back from a fascinating and exhausting assignment to Zambia about Bitcoin mining. 28 hours of driving in 3 days but worth it to report from locations like this.

🚨 This is not a drill 🚨

Everyone who cares about their right to privacy and personal freedom should write to their MPs now.

In the UK Labour are rushing through a Bill that could give the government the power not only to spy on your bank accounts, but to remove money directly from them.

A little understood aspect of Bitcoin is that Bitcoin in and of itself is not necessarily what excites people in the industry. What IS really exciting is the potential of this tool to fix and mitigate a multitude of problems.

We've been working with investigative journalist L0la L33tz to request information from the National Crime Agency - about its outlandish claims on the risks E2EE and cryptocurrency pose (copy of our request in thread).

In the least surprising news of the year, they have failed to respond in time.

In terms of what I've read so far, no. If you read the text of the Bitcoin law, Article 1 creates the 'unrestricted legal tender' status. The IMF have long hated the law, and El Salvador gave ground on Article 7, which made acceptance mandatory (which has never in practice been followed).

But Joe - the government accelerated their pace of Bitcoin acquisition after this deal was done. Premature to say 'dream is over'?

This acquisition of bitcoin happened just after the IMF deal was announced. I don't think it's correct to categorise this as you have

Some traction (of a kind) in the UK parliament on the question of a Bitcoin strategic reserve - following our work below we are now seeing interested Peers asking pertinent questions relating to Bitcoin.

Sadly it looks at though the UK remains keen to stay in the dark ages as the US leads.

It's as negligent for a nation not to have a #Bitcoin strategy today as it would have been to ignore the internet in 1994.

The UK is the third largest nation state holder of Bitcoin, with over 61,000 coins. Nearly five million UK citizens are thought to hold Bitcoin.

Bitcoin: A Lifeline for Everyone, Not Just the Global Elite
Many progressives and mainstream media are getting the wrong impression [again] that Bitcoin is just for global elites and Trump's crypto donors. That couldn't be further from the truth.

#Bitcoin mining is helping Europe's energy transition, according to Forbes.

Mining helps stabilize the continent's grids by using excess energy and, by integrating with renewable energy, is becoming a key player in the energy landscape

It's been a strange mix of emotions watching events in Syria. I fled the country as a small boy when diplomatic relations broke down with the UK, but I remember the training from my father that the Mukhabarat, the secret police, were always listening, and we had to be careful what we said...

Not that this anti- #Bitcoin campaign was at all effective in any meaningful way, but this is still good news.

Facts matter. The truth matters. And the Change the Code campaign relied on neither.

This segment with the brilliant Charlene Fadirepo is a masterclass on why #Bitcoin matters for Africa.

Hi @joetidy.bsky.social - please watch this from @bbcafrica.bsky.social. Could the BBC not cover this kind of Bitcoin story and how it is transforming lives?
