Statement from Indivisible in response to Speaker Johnson's comments on No Kings on October 18. We also want to emphasize that all of our events are nonviolent and peaceful.

Instead of reopening the government, preserving affordable healthcare, or lowering costs for working families, he's attacking millions of Americans who are peacefully coming together to say that America belongs to its people, not to kings. We'll see everyone on October 18.' All No kings events adhere to a shared commitment to nonviolent protest and community safety. Organizers are trained in de-escalation and are working closely with local partners to ensure peaceful and powerful actions nationwide."

That the enlightened society of The United States of America was better than that. That we had risen above that by focusing on the humanity in all of us, choosing to mutually respect each other regardless of our misunderstandings. But what humanity do we attribute to those afflicted by something we don’t understand–for which there is a cure, but we decide they shouldn’t have?" When we decline to listen to their pleas to be treated as equals, when we decline to learn how similar they are, how have we been enlightened? Happy 109th Birthday to our National Park Service! President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Park Service Organic Act establishing the agency. We are lucky to have four National Parks in Colorado: Rocky Mountain, Mesa Verde, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and Great Sand Dunes.

The next trans person we wish to celebrate is Lynn Conway. Fired from IBM when she announced her plans to transition, she went on to be a pioneer in modern computing and chip design. After living in stealth mode for 31 years, Conway also became a prominent trans activist.

Continuing with lifting up trans voices, Wendy Carlos helped with the development of the Mood synthesizer. She was the first transgender recipient of a Grammy Award, worked on several film scores, and is even a published photographer.

Medicare and Medicaid were signed into law by Pres. LBJ on this day in 1965. Medicaid was created to provide medical insurance for adults and children with limited income and resources. Medicare was to provide it to adults 65+ (later expanded to people with disabilities).

Today marks the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act being signed into law. It provided civil rights for people with physical and mental disabilities- guaranteeing accommodations and services. Signed into law by Pres. George HW Bush - it had widespread bipartisan support.
