There are church people who study God, preach God, teach God, argue about God … yet their spirit remains arid, without devotion. A lot of knowledge and no prayer; all the nourishment is for the intellect and nothing for the will. ~ St. Francis Fasani (Office of Readings)

Frequent meditation on the Passion of Christ gives salutary light to the intellect, efficacious fervor to the will, and sincere compunction to the heart. ... it is an antidote to vice, brakes for the passions, an incitement to a holy and virtuous life ~ St. Leonard of Port Maurice (Off. of Readings)

As a child you don't question things. For example, the genetics of the Munsters. A vampire and a Frankenstein get together and somehow that makes a werewolf?

Each year when I get ready to start my share of the Christmas cards to the friends and benefactors of the friars, I look for a certain bottle of ink and then remember that I left it in Rome. Because who packs a bottle of ink?

I feel that your spirits are being raised up with mine to the heavens above [...] It has been good for us to share the common light, good to have enjoyed ourselves, good to have been glad together. When we part from one another, let us not depart from him. ~ St. Augustine (Office of Readings)

Sometimes I wonder if some of these friars sought out a vow of obedience, perhaps unconsciously, precisely because they resent authority and need to be in conflict with it. Family of origin issues, that sort of thing.

In the midst of these torments, which usually terrify others, I am, by the grace of God, full of joy and gladness, because I am not alone – Christ is with me. Our Master bears the whole weight of the cross, leaving me only the tiniest, last bit. ~ St. Paul Le-Bao-Tinh (Office of Readings)

I love how some friar put a note on a turkey in our freezer that says "for parish food drive," as if one of the brethren would see it and say, all right, no name, fair game! and casually thaw a big turkey and cook it up for a snack

Don't forget kids, on ferial days this week for the hymn at Evening/Morning Prayer and Office of Readings you can sing/recite some Dies Irae. (It's in the back.) Or if you use the typical edition Liturgia Horarum, the Dies Irae parts are in line with this week's proper, as they should be.
