The main consequence of this would just be that I spend less time with my friends who all loved it, so it would largely be a self defeating endeavor.

Like suggesting you need to floodlight a stadium, when all you need is a torch to find your seat. And I'd argue that most net zero experts are not waiting for new technology to solve the problem - its a willpower and financial issue. We have the solutions, and AI wasn't, and isn't, part of it.
