Projecting (back of the envelope) California ISO grid will reduce emissions again this year, to about 44% less than 2014, or between 4-9% less than last year. Biggest drop since 2014 was 2022-2023.

Agree with this completely* but just want to add that what we have to get better at spotting are fakes. That's what they are: Fake videos. No need to call them that other thing, at least not initially.

Conversely, we should expect our brains to be extremely efficient at producing intelligence for the amount of energy our brains consume. That is, orders of magnitude more efficient than data centers running LLMs, given the evolutionary head start. This comparison is rather obviously true.

I know this is petty but I'm infuriated by the sloppiness of 'concerning'. It's not concerning if this is true. It'd be wonderful. It'd be delicious if Johnson goes down because of his hypocrisy.

Funny enough that made me think of what ICE means to Germans nowadays. Just another reminder that we could be having nice things instead of this.

In July California (CAISO) had a staggering drop in CO2 emissions from electricity production compared to previous years. Mild weather helped a lot but this also reflects more solar and batteries on the system. Pretty impressive in the context.
