We study how the #Microbiome together with #Nutrition influence #Juvenile #Physiology using #InMice and #Drosophila as models.
Our results in #Drosophila illustrate that enterokines can regulate IGF signalling, beyond insulin release per se. An evolutionarily conserved or convergent strategy in regulating developmental plasticity in animals?

This work expands the concept of decretins, first proposed by Seung K. Kim al. in the context of sugar metabolism regulation in adults, to include developmental pace control

Suppression of Insulin Production and Secretion by a Decretin Hormone
Classical studies in mammals suggest that fasting induces circulating hormones that actively suppress insulin production and secretion. Alfa et al. identify a nutrient-responsive “decretin” hormone pa...

We establish that Limostatin acts as a « decretin » (in opposition to the famous incretin, such as GLP-1), ie decreasing circulating levels of Insulin-like peptides, enabling juveniles to adapt developmental pace and preserve viability while nutrients are scarce

We found Limostatin induced in a handful of enteroendocrine cells ONLY when nutrient shortage is sensed

🪰 folks! Despite Harvard lawsuit outcome, FlyBase NIH grant was not released. FlyBase now runs on the public, like NPR, PBS etc. If we don't step up, it can go away! Donations site on flybase.org homepage. Note: it links to IU stock center, but its for FlyBase, see instructions. pls give+share! 2/2
