Trying to make tilesets look good is a pain, this is gonna be a pain.

Something I like to do with my game is go a bit off-model. Either by mistake, or intentionally if a sketch looks charmingly odd.

I think it lends the game a more "hand-drawn" feel. Like what you'd get in a manga.

Initially, I wanted to go for the route of "performative freakout" with the first thumbnail. And you can see that carry over to the early cold opens/thumbnails

If you wanna get an idea of how far in advance I do them: I've already scripted the next video, edited some choice bits, and discarded these 3 thumbnails.

Wanted to visually tie it back to PW's "distance" motif while also just aping Flower Sun and Rain a little bit.

Devlog 3 was gonna be about Deus Ex's level design, but mid-editing I realized I had a lot more to say about the "micro goals" I brought up in last video.

So I'm re-doing bits and pieces to be more about that instead.

In the playtesting phase for Area 1. The gameplay engages, but it's hard to gauge how actually fun it all is cause I'm overly-familiar with it.

This isn't a funny gag or a cool thing for me anymore. It's just "an enemy" and "an item drop." Cold, hard numbers.
