I think the main sticking point is that, in a vacuum, his resume and profile look disturbingly similar to that of Billy Napier when he was hired and that’s causing a lot of PTSD. This graphic I saw on Reddit sums up the feelings of the fanbase at large.

![Boy, I sure do like this [Billy Napier / Jon Sumrall]. He's gone |40-12 / 41-11] in the G5, including a record of [27-5 / 27-4] in conference play! I guess you could argue that he's gotten a little lucky because he's [16-3 / 15-3] in one-score games, but I'm sure that's because he's a great tactician who knows how to win the close ones. I'll admit, his two-year average Total Offense ranking of [50th / 53rd] is a bit concerning, but it's not like Gator fans like offense. At the end of the day, when you get a chance at a [42 / 43] year-old who is a super [nice / charismatic] guy, you have to take it. Am I right?
