There are few things that the internet age has dragged into the light for me more than how much less people understand about film and television than they think they do.
The YouTube obsession with identifying (or really, inflicting the identification) of “easter eggs” on movies and TV shows has mauled what’s left of cultural criticism. Half the time, the so-called “easter eggs” are just examples of foreshadowing and narrative depth.
