A failure means punishment, and when you weren’t aware you were “being tested” instead of being curious and thinking about what this piece of art could mean, they lash out defensively at something that they feel “broke the rules of the test”.

I was thinking about this exact thing recently. I think we’ve conditioned people to be angry when they’re confused through punishment and negative reinforcement in early life. So when some people sit down to enjoy something and they become confused, they become frustrated as if they’ve failed a task
