I'm participating in a moccasin making workshop & I knew right away what I wanted to bead on the vamps. My daughter's fav chicken, Chicky Nuggie, who rules our farm with an iron claw. 😆

Regenerative agriculture is not new either it’s been practiced by Indigenous communities worldwide. And seeing how people co opt and repackage movements to be leaders of movements that don’t even represent the true people of the lands they’ve bought.

We added a new member to our household today! A small holland lop bunny, named Bunbun, for my daughter. She's worked so hard for almost a year doing extra chores to prove she's ready for a pet of her own. 🥲

Part of what frustrates me with native plant darling Doug Tallamy is that he's coming from a very old-fashioned, European perspective on how people and plants interact.

Here's two stories of pre-industrial human interactions w/ plants. Which of the two suggests a collaborative future together?
If you think about it, this seemingly ruthless approach to other species made sense. In the old days, it was “nature” that ate us, froze us, starved us, flooded us, killed our livestock, and threatened our crops. The more we beat back nature, tamed it, ate it, or otherwise eliminated it, the better off we were. It was not only ethical to control nature in our landscapes, but necessary, particularly after we transitioned from hunter-gatherers to farmers (Cassils 2004). A “them versus us” philosophy has been deeply embedded in our genetic blueprint from our earliest days, because only those who pushed hard against nature survived to pass on their genes. It was nature or humans, but never both; there was no sharing of space or resources with non-domesticated species—no coexistence at all—and it seemed to work well for humans, until now. Tallamy, Douglas W.. Nature's Best Hope: A New Approach to Conservation That Starts in Your Yard (p. 30). (Function). Kindle Edition. The exchange between plants and people has shaped the evolutionary history of both. Farms, orchards, and vineyards are stocked with species we have domesticated. Our appetite for their fruits leads us to till, prune, irrigate, fertilize, and weed on their behalf. Perhaps they have domesticated us. Wild plants have changed to stand in well-behaved rows and wild humans have changed to settle alongside the fields and care for the plants—a kind of mutual taming. We are linked in a co-evolutionary circle. The sweeter the peach, the more frequently we disperse its seeds, nurture its young, and protect them from harm. Food plants and people act as selective forces on each other’s evolution—the thriving of one in the best interest of the other. This, to me, sounds a bit like love. Kimmerer, Robin Wall.
