I had a chance to speak with Mike a few times back in the early aughts, when I was editing a fiction anthology (we included some of his work). I was trying my best not to fanboy, but wow, I was pretty excited. Turns out, he is a scholar, a gentleman, and a genuinely down to earth, cool guy.
