I don't have the brain to follow the breadcrumbs rn, but I am like 100% sure the animators of the 1990 Moomin anime took one loom at Snork and said, "Doesn't he look like Miyazaki sensei?" and then decided to make him obsessed with airplanes, a trait the original character doesn't have.
