Altough more substantial parts of my turn-based roguelike are still waiting to be developed, I decided to work on the look of the interface for a bit. I am changing the flat look it had before (which I did not hate) to a more 3d-ish look. This sets the interface apart from the world graphics.

In this screenshot of the game I am working on, the player is carrying a loaded bow and a shield, which is controversial. In the center of the room is a stone troll, which will only move if it is angered by repeated attacks and proximity. This can lead to puzzles on how to get through a room.

I am changing the "Skeleton Dungeon" graphics from 24x24 to 36x36 and centering the view on the player, so sprites can be seen better and the world can be larger than the screen. Now for some actual gameplay...

As my game does not have a levelling system, I am adding armor that can absorb damage, as a means of effectively increasing the hp pool of player and monsters. Here the player is wearing 'cloth armor' (one step up from 'old rags'). Maybe the player sprite should be a tad bigger.

A playable demo of my turn based roguelike (in portrait mode for phones) is now on itch.io. I plan to update it regularly. Right now it's just one level. Still much to do! foppygames.itch.io/skeleton-dun...

The player can now throw items in my #turnbased game, but it will not hit monsters yet, just the wall.

I added an animation system to my turn based roguelike. Now it is easier to see how an item moves from one location to another. Next I plan to add sequencing of messages and animations, so results of actions can be presented to the player step by step instead of all at once.

"Skeleton Dungeon" (GameMaker) now has snakes that can bite and poison the player. They only attack if the player gets close. I am considering to not have an XP system as I want to avoid having to kill all creatures just to level up. Instead the collected items make the player stronger.

My roguelike uses a simple line of sight system: the room you are in is visible, and from a doorway both rooms are visible. This suits the room layout which is made using 'binary space partitioning', giving only rectangular rooms.

I have been working on this turn based roguelike in GameMaker for a few months now. It is to be played on phones. The player can attack enemies, now code has to be added for the enemies to act. I am happy with how GameMaker works and was even able to test on my phone without much hassle.
