I'm an ex-CM who lives so close to MK I could see the fireworks from my bed. I mostly, at this point, collect CM exclusive pins dealing with backstage stuff, but the occasional others slip in. (Hell I studied theme park management in undergra/grad school). Can't disagree with anything you've said.

Do they need the money that badly?

Normally I'd recommend DLP, but if your time constrained probably not the best option haha. I could get you into a very expensive mid life crisis and get you addicted to Disney pin collecting though.

Safer than cars, and at least you can display them on your walls.

FountainCam is very relaxing!

That is why I capitalise Guest. Because if we forget that they are the centre of hospitality, everything come crumbling down around us. Put the Guest first and you will do no wrong. Others may not like it, but they are truly fools and will never win in this business. End thread. (11/11)

Because if you give good service to the Guest they will return and spend more if they can, and more importantly they will talk about it. We've forgotten all about that, instead treating Guests as temporary mindless piggy banks. Do better. We have to or we all lose. (10/?)

Because in these days of electronic entertainment, going somewhere to experience something is special, time consuming and expensive. Recognise that the Guest spent money to be there, and not the Guest as a vehicle to spend more of it. The Golden Rule applies here. (9/?)

So what are we to do? For Guests, media, outside actors? Not much we can. For those who are in a position to change things, please try. While we cannot easily return to the 70's, 80's, 90's, views on Guest service, I feel it is important to this industry we try. (8/?)

I've heard it out of front-line employees, who I've overheard saying "I'm tired of talking to people", "guests suck", "I don't care, figure it out yourself", and "Not my job." Not acceptable, but in a culture which deemphesises Guest service, it's tolerated. (7/?)
November 18, 2025 at 3:56 AM
I've heard this out of managers who have told me "the Disney Difference is dead", and "who cares? They already paid to be here." That "if they really want to ride that ride that's been down all day, they'll buy another ticket and come back tomorrow." On and on and on. (6/?)

They care only that they hit KPIs, metrics, and so forth. I am not deriding data - I have been an analyst for years. I am deriding those who claim good enough data (or $) can replace a Guest's feelings and actions. If a Guest does not have good service they will not return. (5/?)

And why does it rarely matter to them? Not because they're not auditing the Guest experience, or in the front lines, or even reviewing surveys and other metrics, but because outside of certain leaders in this industry (and major hospitality schools), nobody cares anymore. (4/?)

When we go unpaid we do not work. When we do not work the Guest does not get what they paid for. It alarms me to hear so many in this industry declare, on LinkedIn, BlueSky, Twitter, the classroom, on-stage, off-stage, and elsewhere, that Guest service rarely matters. (3/?)
November 18, 2025 at 3:55 AM
I capitalise it, Team Member, Ambassador, CM, or what have you, because I truly believe that the Guest deserves as much respect as people who keep our parks, resorts, casinos, and soforth, running. Without them, businesses make no money. Without money we would go unpaid. (2/?)

One statement talks about a "transition period" with a free sub... So who knows for how long?

Not only does it suit the calendar, and is unique and fun, but it's also implemented in #FM26!

Seeing that you worked with the NSA, I'm surprised you're still alive haha...

Or Columbo or M*A*S*H. Or even a good variety or game show (What's My Line?).
