I did not know the author of Food Not Lawns is on here! I was so inspired by this book! When we bought our house in 2017, we knew we would xeriscape and grow native plants and FOOD. Over the years, we've slowly added more food beds.

Year 2. Front bed got cleared and planted and the apple trees finally started really growing. We added in the wooden box for a strawberry bed. This was 2018. A yellow house and its front lawn. A front garden bed is lined with a white mini picket fence and has many beautiful hardy flowers in it and is covered in red wood chips. A wooden garden bed has been set up in the middle between two newish apple trees. It also is covered in red wood chips and has its first few strawberry plants. That strawberry bed is very full today. This year. We got a late start on planting but you can see we added more beds and pots and got rid of all grass. There is river rock between several different sized garden beds. Wooden raised beds are front most and are on the driveway west side of the house. One of the apple trees is now large but the other never grew much.

Take this seriously. If you CAN, slowly be stocking up on canned & frozen food. Bulk stuff is a better idea than ever.

Lawns don’t feed communities, gardens do!
Neighbors just knocked our doors asking to pick fruit, they came empty bags in hand lol. Mangoes aren’t ready yet, but passion fruit is overflowing.

We can reimagine our yards, grow abundance, & share!

#foodnotlawns doesn't even have to be a formal garden. Spring brings all these plants growing wild in my yard for salads — and of course I dry them for tea!
Dandelions and dead nettle amongst other edible wildflowers.

growing greens in the past, I was a sad aphid farmer. But a friend gave me this giant collard (and kales) so I’m having another go. My rhubarb has been chock full of aphids on and off for years & I just let her be.
