Gimme a short stack of comics, a platter of jazz, and a steaming cup of noir.
Still mad about blowing my crossword streak a few months ago, but making progress on the long road back!

Day 3 selection for #Noirvember (and another RKO release): THE HITCH-HIKER (1953), directed by Ida Lupino. I have a feeling they shouldn’t pick this guy up.

This #Noirvember I plan to focus on films I haven't seen before. First up: DEADLINE AT DAWN (1946).

Dammit, @2000ad.bsky.social - you got me. After 6 years of reading the Prog, I finally picked up the Megazine… and got wrapped up in all 6 stories. Guess I’m a double-subscriber now. Not sure I can handle this much thrill-power!

Working from Airport — I’m not even going anywhere, just wanted a massive change of environment and stimuli to wake up the ol’ synapses for a brainstorming session.

This morning’s listening:

GABRIEL KAHANE - HEIRLOOM

Bright and unpredictable, this concerto for piano and chamber orchestra bobs and weaves, pulling divergent streams of musical heritage into an effervescent whole. I really enjoyed it!

This morning’s listening:

ANCIENT INFINITY ORCHESTRA — IT’S ALWAYS ABOUT LOVE

15-piece jazz ensemble from Leeds on a lovely, meditative journey that's soothing my anxiety and feeding the soul. I needed this today!

Comics highlight of the week: letting my eyes rove slowly across the glorious pages of DROME by @jesselonergan.bsky.social — tracing whorls of time, parsing intricate structures, lingering over every enigmatic detail of gods and monsters, power and balance, love and destruction. Wow!

I finally caught up with Vols 1-3 of THE SACRIFICERS by @remender.bsky.social, Max Fiumara, @andrelimaaraujo.com and co.

With morally complex mythic fantasy, intense emotional hits, and fabulous art, this tale of incandescent righteous anger feels charged and cathartic. Next arc starts in October!

An exciting morning for the cats! That squirrel was a total badass and just stood there cussing them out.

The administration says killing environmental regulations will "usher in a golden age," and they're right - that's the color of the smoggy, disgusting air we'll all get to choke on soon! Can't wait!

Reading GREAT EXPECTATIONS. I am continually surprised at how often Dickens can make me snicker, guffaw, or let loose with an explosive “HA!!”
