Well yeah. No trade, no trade deficit. Scarcity and stagflation, though.

We prefer Mar-a-Lago-style scoring, in which we just pull fantasies out of our ass.
FOX: This bill adds trillions to our debt. How is that acceptable to the administration?

BESSENT: You're referring to the CBO scoring I believe, which is DC-style scoring

Cutting prices by the power of make-believe
Trump: "We're doing what a lot of smart people would do, and we're not necessarily being politically correct. You saw what we did yesterday in healthcare. We've cut our healthcare by 50 to 90 percent."

To hell in a handbasket?
REPORTER: Trump has the lowest approval rating of any president in the last 80 years. How do you interpret those numbers?

MIKE JOHNSON: Look, in any new administration, it's a rollercoaster ... what the real polling is showing is that they understand that we're heading somewhere.

Slept in my Leonard Cohen T-shirt and woke up sure that the rich have got their channels in the bedrooms of the poor, and there’s a mighty judgment coming.
Slept in my Smashing Pumpkins t-shirt and despite all my rage I'm still just a rat in a cage.

Trump on Feb. 14th, 2020, talking about COVID-19:

“We have a very small number of people in the country, right now, with it… So we’re in very good shape.”
REPORTER: How concerned are you about the measles outbreak? There was another fatality today

TRUMP: Well I think they, uh, they're doing reports on it. It's so far a fairly small number of people. It's something people have known about for many many years. We'll see what happens.

Where does he think our students are now?
Trump on the Department of Education: "We're gonna shut it down and shut it down as quickly as possible. It's doing us no good. We want to return our students to the states."

It’s amazing how many people in positions of influence, both in Congress and in the media, fail to grasp that the normal practices of politics are no longer adequate. In normal times a shutdown is a disaster, but it pales in comparison to shredding the Constitution, alliances, and democracy itself.
Schumer: "I supported what the House did to vote against this bill universally, but that didn't cause a shutdown. It's different in the Senate. I knew people were gonna disagree with me but I thought so strongly that the shutdown would be the greatest disaster we face ... "
