Great work from The Age newspaper - a great connection between the image (effects of a devastating fire) & an article about how the Howard gov ignored expert advice about the likely impacts of climate change if they didn't act to reduce emissions.

AS 2 major fires continue to spread in VIC, much of the state is facing a Catastrophic Fire Danger Warning for tomorrow.

Yes, this is an Australian summer.

But this is also an example of what summers look like under the influence of climate change.

The first half of 2025 produced a worldwide win for renewables. JAN - July was the first time in history that renewables produced more power than coal over that stretch.

Solar’s monumental rise is the main reason for the shift.

Friends of the Earth Australia will be taking a short break over the holiday/new year period.

We use this time to reflect on the privilege we have to be to take time off, when so many around the world right now do not. Solidarity with all oppressed peoples and the planet 💚

Our thoughts are with everyone impacted by the attack at Bondi Beach. Our hearts are with the victims, survivors, & their families. We extend our deepest solidarity to the Jewish community.

In moments like this, we are reminded that we are strongest as a society when we come together in unity.

These incredible old alpine ash can be found on Mt Stirling in Victoria’s high country. They survived logging, & fires in the early 2000s.

Now that logging has stopped, the main threat is from fires which are being super charged by climate change.

This beautiful snow gum lives just on the treeline on Mt Howitt in the VIC high country. It is one of the grand old trees we have mapped as part of our project to identify pockets of forest that must be protected.

A historic step in the journey to a safe climate is on the table at the world’s biggest climate summit: a roadmap away from fossil fuels, which are the biggest cause of the climate crisis.

We support the leadership of Brazil & encourage all delegates to support it, especially Australia.

The Liberal party has abandoned their commitment to net zero. They have caved to the deniers.

As COP30 kicks off in Belém, the timing of this announcement seems out of touch, with nations from the Global South demanding strong actions from countries like Australia.

In Miguel de Cervantes' novel from the 1600s, the protagonist, Don Quixote, famously mistakes windmills for giants & charges them with his lance, only to be knocked off his horse.

Our modern day Quixote, Andrew Bolt, is equally deluded.
