We desperately needed a cooling dry bath, but the typical brands are crazy expensive. So we got ourselves a

I found an insect outside, and I thought it had nice red spots. Turns out they were parasitic mites. 🤮

Myofibrils have a second-harmonic-generation microscopy gradient. 👍

Using MHC as a marker, they show that after muscles are damaged, hemocytes migrate towards the damaged muscle to direct tracheal outgrowth toward the injured muscle and supply key extracellular matrix components.
Look at the green hemocytes here

One highlight of the work imo is the discovery that damaged muscles express a shorter Myosin Heavy Chain splice variant, providing a marker for muscle damage in #Drosophila.

at least it got a wing right

I love that the #Drosophila feed is an equal mix of people who hate and people who love fruit flies

Thanks for sharing. I didn't know NCBI could do that! So many rearrangements, it is beautiful.

I think we have some muscle phenotypes

We got a polarizing microscope to play with and looked at Drosophila legs. The muscles are nice to see, first they are blue, then yellow, then gone. what kind of magic is this

We tried it when teh preprint came out a few months ago with an old widefield microscope we have and it worked great. Congrats to the authors!

We have Drosophila flies with a DsRed JNK reporter. Some of them are so red you can see them without a fluorescence microscope, but some others are not red at all. We don't know why.

We have #Drosophila flies that degrade their muscles prematurely. We looked at them with TEM and saw these membrane balls. Does anyone know what they are? Please, hivemind, help us out

We want to do some experiments in Tribolium. How do we get stocks? Is there a stock center like for Drosophila?
