This week, Kiran thinks the right wing press’s noses are out of joint because they repeated rubbish they’d been told by the Treasury. I have no idea whether that’s true, but I note a consistent theme of the era is lobby journos enraged because the government of the day made monkeys of them again.

His actual onscreen response was that he was glad people were protesting because the suffering people of Iraq couldn’t. This was said to be a pretty crushing response that showed the Prime Minister’s determination to get the job done, a thing that should also strike you as quite familiar.

Normally risk-averse media outlets appear to have been confident enough in these allegations that they have published them, a thing that - I would say this very confidently - they would not do, if they thought there was any serious doubt over their veracity.

Unionists support in Scotland tends to cluster around the unionist party that’s perceived to be doing best at the time. The same dynamic that gave Labour 37 Scottish MPs is going to see these people shoved straight into the bin.

This is correct: there is no screeching terror campaign coming here to annihilate Farage’s posh National Front. If it comes to a choice between beating back Reform or e.g. the Greens, then that is not going to be a choice at all for people who actually matter in British public life.
