Instead of admiring that he built a political movement, we should despair at the *type* of political movement he left behind. Not something to be proud of. Of course violence is never to solution to this. I just don’t believe the remedy is adopting his abhorrent practices either. (2/2)

Kirk in fact practiced the lowest form of politics: belittling, scapegoating, and convincing people that those of a different ideology or identity were an “other” to be feared. (1/2)

This is the wrong thing to do and will further undermine trust in the justice system.

I know, however, that the 77 million people who just voted to collectively pardon a convicted criminal with yet more pending charges will have zero issue with this decision. Isn’t that right?

I don’t think it’s about devaluing “blackness.” It’s possible some of the more socially conservative things Obama said may have appealed to voters of color, many of whom are religious and socially conservative themselves. They also happen to appeal to the white working class voter.

Respectfully disagree. I think there is real value to be found in Obama’s broad appeal - and why that appeal wasn’t there with Harris, even in the face of a racist demagogue like Trump.

Respect for democratic norms and institutions! So much of the strength of our democracy is built on our collective acquiescence to (and faith in) certain shared principles. Without it, the system crumbles like a house of cards.
