Made the mistake of falling asleep while watching the new Adam Curtis series late last night. Autoplay combined with the heat, soundtrack choices and audio from the archive clips without a narrator made for the most bizarre dreams.

Doug Laughton meant everything to us in Widnes, he made us the best team in the world, lifted the cup at Wembley for Vinty in 75 two lads from The Aves whose place in the history of Widnes RLFC will never be bettered

I was never one for “heroes” but Dougie Laughton was someone I would happily call one. As kids he made us feel proud to be from Widnes, to talk how we did and to carry ourselves with a swagger in our walk rather than a chip on our shoulder. Truly one of the greats of rugby league. RIP, lad.
