Hey, artists, in case you were wondering if your work matters: I'm a scientist working on climate change and biodiversity, and I would not be who I am today without The Lorax, The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, The Last Unicorn, and The X-Files. I know I'm not alone. Thank you for all you do.

This plaque in Prague has been rubbed to a shiny gold because for centuries, passersby have touched the dog for good luck, and also to reassure him that he's a very good boy. 14/10

Opinion | Joh Bjelke-Petersen's Queensland was the political swamp from which Peter Dutton emerged. Anyone who thinks that’s a worldview we should embrace either didn’t grow up here, is too young to remember it, or too foolish to care.
Dutton has the worldview of a Queensland cop, someone once wrote. We should take that seriously
Peter Dutton wasn’t party to any of this debauchery of Queensland Police under the reign of Joh Bjelke-Petersen. But he's every inch a product of the culture and politics of the time.

This is a sewing pattern. It is also a page from a late 14th century manuscript that is one of two primary sources for an important Icelandic saga (Sturlunga saga), but that was probably not important to the 17th century person who really needed a sewing pattern.
