Just as Sam was starting to get comfortable with the changes in his body, his loneliness ripped that satisfaction from his hands. When he had a job, his mind was too preoccupied with it to consider what his hormone therapy was doing to his libido. He could tell it was stronger than before, but not enough to be problematic. Attempts to play with himself a couple times experimentally didn't elicit the kind of euphoria he expected from the way other people talked about it, but he had enough distractions in his life to shrug it off and focus on other things. After his injury, it started to get harder to ignore… massage therapy for his partial paralysis made it abundantly clear that he craved physical contact with somebody else. As pathetic as it felt, even completely platonic kneading turned him on more than his own hands ever could. Moreover, having his siblings over to assist with his recovery - especially when they brought their children with them - meant he didn't really have the opportunity to adequately tend to it. Trying to pleasure himself manually when they weren't around had barely any effects, and he was too scared to buy toys or other aids, for fear of them being found by his family. He couldn't bear the thought of being caught like that; the embarrassment would've killed him. Even a vibrator that he could have excused as being for physical therapy - especially for his neuropathy - felt like it would skirt the line enough to call their judgment. Once they left him, and he was truly alone, he started getting truly desperate. He no longer had the money to spend on something so extravagant as masturbatory aids, but his loneliness and lack of distractions amplified his need to relieve his pent-up urges a hundredfold regardless. While not completely incapable of pleasuring himself, the amount of time and effort it took for such meager, fleeting release began to frustrate him, and his dysphoria began to slowly return as his dissatisfaction consumed him. Little did he know his eventual relief would arrive in the wake of world-ending circumstances, and come in the most unlikely of forms...

Don't mind me, just rambling about the WormSamAU stuff I'm writing but not publicly sharing because... well, it grew into something that doesn't strike me as something most other people would like. But I feel like rambling anyway.

I've been focusing on this a lot lately, and really, apart from the kinky shit and the weird specbio, the narrative portion of it has just been speaking to me a lot. This is a fundamentally different Sam than my 'main' one, in that everything that hurt him prior to the apocalypse got him so deep he lost all confidence in himself being anything but a failure and a disappointment, causing him to withdraw inwards. He's very selfish, and only goes out in the name of 'self-care' (looking for supplies to survive and games to keep himself entertained/occupied). The one time he lets emotion in, it's negative; jealousy and spite… and to the outside observer, it backfires. Unlike my other Sam(s?), he's too broken by his own self-worth issues to consider romance or appreciation even if it's presented to him. Not to say there's no emotion present in his ultimate fate, but there's definitely no real love involved, just miserable desperation twisted into weird biological duty, which is kind of odd for me, but cathartic to explore. I'm not usually one for loveless sex, but that's essentially what happens to him; so afraid of commitment and the possibility of fucking up a REAL relationship, that he'd rather just let some worms fuck him to death as his only chance to have that kind of experience… and although he technically survives the ordeal, he undergoes a partial death of personality in the process (though one could argue it's for the better, given that even though the worms modified him irreparably, they also promised him he'd be cared for, and backed up that promise accordingly, allowing him to let go of a lot of his worries and self-hate). That terrifying allure of no longer having to worry about anything even if it means giving up everything… it's the same suicide-parallel of the whole Spine "remaking" narrative. I guess it's always on my mind as a religious person; the belief you have to let your sinful self die and be 'born again' into a new and 'fixed' state to fully embrace true happiness under God's love, where he'll take care of your every need… I struggle with the implications a lot, and I guess it forms a large part of my infatuation with these weird conversion-into-something-else-at-the-cost-of-identity narratives. On the other hand there's Harriet, who's trying very hard to be someone who helps Sam and tries to make him feel wanted, but who does so from the standpoint of being neurotypical and completely unaware of neurodivergent struggles. Her frustration is warranted and justified, but at the same time frustrating both from her perspective and Sam's. The times I've had a neurotypical try to help me, fail due to not understanding my underlying problems, and immediately turning around to blame me for 'not wanting to get better.' Clearly I ENJOY suffering. Clearly I can just mind-over-matter my mental health issues away! It's not like it's hard to mind-over-matter yourself when your mind does not work correctly! Like, I understand the frustration as someone who has tried to help people who can't be helped, but vilifying someone for what they can't help isn't going to fix the problem, if anything it makes it worse… and for all of Harriet's best intentions, it wasn't the right time to resort to brutal honesty. Not when that honesty boiled down to being so 'normal' and 'human' that the idea of being so 'abnormal' as to seek out an 'inhuman' solution is seen as objectively wrong and disgusting… when at no point did any 'human' solution work appropriately and this, against all odds, did. She never figures it out completely, but at least she has the option to eventually decide that he's allowed to find contentedness on these strange and alien terms, even if she feels a bit betrayed that he'd go to the lengths he did rather than taking the steps she offered and merely assumed would be sufficient. She learns to accept that this isn't something she doesn't understand and doesn't have the answer for, but that doesn't mean she can't still be there for him. It's cathartic to project my own misery about things for exploration, but also cathartic to give those characters the opportunity for closure that I'm not sure I'd ever experience, myself. I wanna work with it more. Even aside all the personal projection and the dark themes that come with it, I do like some of the levity thrown in here and there, and I'd like to make some more unique OCs for the AU that add to things, and more unique situations in general to make it not completely a sick doom and gloom alternate take.

Just a little bit of angst with a sprinkling of Flawed Ending Parallel. Temporary second-guessing shower thoughts.
He was hoping the shower would help wash away some of the misgivings creeping into the back of his mind. Unfortunately, it did the opposite. As he sat down on the stool Harri//t had graciously brought him to make showering in his present condition a little bit easier, he felt the warm streams of water trickle down over and through so many uncomfortable, unfamiliar new folds and crevasses of his distorted body, and the gravity of the situation began to set in. What the FUCK was he thinking??! He spent about 30 minutes in the shower holding his head and screaming. It's fine… this is fine… It'll just be… kind of shitty in the mean time… Soon… soon they'll be back with more eggs… Everything wiLl bE gOoD aGaIN…

Despite feeling generally down about it, I still add stuff to the doc from time to time. I do find the mental image of Hand Worms never speaking but being called "annoying, pretentious assholes" by other worms who have to listen to their hivemind-speak to be very funny.

She was clearly bearing most of the weight of the egg-laden man between the three of them, though Harri//t made very sure that the giant woman's iron grip did not cause any trauma to Sam's midsection. "You can go back once he's settled in," Harri//t sighed as they made their way over to the bedroom, "I can get back fine. I DID spend the first few days of this nightmare alone, you know." She carefully braced Sam's distended belly with her arm as they guided him down onto the bed as gently as possible. Her brow furrowed, face scrunching up. She could feel the individual eggs sloshing about what felt to be just beneath the surface, in an altogether unnatural way that reminded her nothing of her own pregnancy all those years ago. The feeling alone nearly made her sick… but she powered through her gut reaction as she pulled the covers over. Once settled, she stepped over to the wardrobe for something that might at least provide some dignity covering, once Sam snapped out of the whole ordeal. She shook her head; there wasn't a lot to work with, and definitely nothing that would help with his unnaturally distending gut. She grabbed the largest sweater, then went over to the dresser in the other corner to find the loosest set of pajama slacks, and set them on the bedstand for later. She was about to leave when his words rung in her memory… "I cAN fEeL iT… My liFe fLOwiNg iNto THe EgGs… hOW BliSsFul iT Is tO slOWly ExpIRe iN tHe sERvICe Of sUcH aN aUSpICiOus dUTy." And in remembering, realized she didn't know how long he had been lying there in the dark. Harri//t headed into the kitchen… if he ever returned from this, he would probably be starving… a glass of room temperature water and some rice in chicken broth would probably be safe. She didn't know why she cared so much… but something in the back of her mind demanded she make sure he was okay.
