I'm studying Biochemistry, tearing up the kitchen, and playing fighting games.
Maybe I'm just old, but you don't need training mode for a public beta. It's the only opportunity people have any more to experience what an arcade launch was like. Just hit some buttons, there's no skin in the game. Have fun.

And US scientists are doing the same. Prior to this administration I was looking at grad schools solely inside the US. Fully half of the ones I'm looking at now are outside the US. I need to go where the opportunities are, and the well looks to be running dry here.
I spoke to a talented junior scientist who just got a good faculty job offer in the US and they told me “well I wouldn’t move to 1930s Germany either” so that’s how that’s going

Hell yes! This is exactly the kind of systems biology tactics I hoped I would see more and more in medicine. No piece of biology is an island, it's all interconnected, and sometimes messing with one piece will create downstream effects that can be a boon or a curse. Very cool stuff.
THIS IS HUGE! Researchers have discovered a vulnerability in drug-resistant bacteria: zinc- OR a lack thereof. Depriving bacteria of certain nutrients can cause important physiological changes, rendering them VULNERABLE to antibiotics, INCLUDING those they once resisted! Let’s talk about that! 🧪🧵⬇️

Guys, I'm not even playing, we pulled her whole genome, too. The condition combined with her genes and the metabolism of her prescription gave me MAJOR insights into the pathology of migraine and functional neurologic disorders.

I might have a very big paper coming down the pipes. Stay tuned.
Just got the results from this epilepsy study....

I WAS RIGHT, IT'S NOT EPILEPSY. We're going to be able to cure her seizures! I said for FOUR YEARS that something was up with the drugs based on metabolic reasoning and no one believed me. They still don't understand, but I. WAS. RIGHT.

We have the tech to rapidly bonk any emergent strain of these but good luck getting adoption without an education overhaul. Not optimistic for my lifetime either.

Side note: while both are RNA viruses, the similarities end there. COVID is an absolute monster molecularly.
SARSCOV2 and influenza are both RNA viruses that evolve quickly. They're both more airborne than smallpox and easily infect animals, making eradication (thus far) impossible.

I do think that we will eventually find a way to end their impact on people, but probably not in my lifetime.

Bad news: my partner has to stay 5 days downtown for an in patient med eval

Good news: They allow overnight guests, we're already on day 3 of prison, and the food choices downtown are way better than at home. Plenty of time for board games, too.

It always strikes me how cowardly antisemites and antivaxxers are when it comes to admitting their experiences or lack thereof. They call people idiots, sheep, or other insults, and then commit blatant intellectual dishonesty in this way. Call them out on it.

Well, I tried on the other site to speak some sense to this weird strain of bigotry lurking around the FGC, but those guys are just too far gone. The internet really does let the worst people come together and gas each other up.

Gonna put "Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind" in the Constitution
Daily reminder that the underlying purpose of AI is to allow wealth to access skill while removing from the skilled the ability to access wealth.
Anyway, AI has already stolen friends’ work, and is going to put other people out of work.

I do not think a political party that claims to be the party of workers in this country should be using it. Even for just a silly joke.

Most French dip recipes say use boneless rib eye, but then whence comes cook's treat?

Can we stop saying "healthcare CEO" when we mean "Insurance CEO" or "Parasite on Healthcare CEO"

"motive unclear" is a hell of a way to end with that lede

How the department talks about chemistry: *slowly with exhaustive detail and no guiding star at the outset tricks you into learning how to synthesize almost anything in your corner of chemistry*

How I talk about chemistry: Hey kids want to learn how to edit reality like a wizard?

None of you speaking this rhetoric are making efforts to separate the very real medical science done by researchers in pharma and the very real harm done by the MBA class in the C suite, lending aid to conspiracy theories while undermining both science and your own party. It's irresponsible.
It is hard to counter this combo of cynicism and lying without bonafide candidates who can throw a punch.

If we want to beat a right wing that weaponizes (justified!) public anger at Big Pharma to destroy the social safety net + spread conspiracies, we can’t run Dems who take money from Big Pharma.
