i can see a very dark pathway where the GOP keeps the shutdown in place forever. the federal gov’t can still spend money during a shutdown, with some restrictions, but the rules have not been legally tested and the 1st trump admin broke them many times

i hate the idea of helping trump or the GOP in any way. but: the fear is they will deem all workers in parts of the gov’t they don’t like to be “non-essential” and furlough them during the shutdown, then use the furlough as a pretense to fire them if the shutdown lasts longer than 90 days
