A new article by the Tampa Bay Times reveals that hundreds of people in Florida DOC prisons were delayed from getting necessary eye surgery.

We’re suing on behalf of the people who were denied this care.

In 2024, FJI and the Southern Legal Counsel sued St. Johns County over its anti-panhandling ordinance.

That lawsuit has helped to keep other counties and cities from enforcing similar laws.

#OTD in 1965 the 13th Amendment ended slavery, but with a loophole; slavery was allowed as punishment for a crime. This marked the beginning of mass incarceration and the systemic oppression of Black people that persists today. Understanding this history is crucial to dismantling the system.

Reports show the heat index hitting 119 degrees inside Dade Correctional Institution. This is a serious health risk for people inside.

FJI is fighting in court because forcing people to endure this kind of extreme heat is cruel and inhumane.
