I love boardgames, card games & tabletop RPGs — and I’m designing a stabby little card game.
Pinned
Hey, I thought I’d post a couple shots of the prototype of Fortress, the game I’m working on. It’s a “beers and laughs” card game that plays like a board game. It’s fast, stabby fun!
I friggin love ducks. My group has played successive RQ campaigns off and on since the 80s and they’ve all featured at least one duck. Better yet, we’ve made sure they’re a family lineage. So the duck in the campaign I’m GMing now is the great grandson of a duck I had when I was a player.
Want to play a Duck? After appearing as a location and then counters in Greg Stafford's 1975 board war game White Bear and Red Moon ("Ducks, Ducks, and More Ducks"), as #TTRPG creatures Ducks first appeared in @chaosium.bsky.social's first edition of #RuneQuest (1978).

In the RuneQuest campaign I’m currently GMing, Praxians have thick, Boris and Natasha-style Russian accents, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I cannot stop playing the Anarchy. The solo campaign is soooo good!

Got up at 4:30 to go slay dragons and giant scorpions in the desert.

Of course I was going to generate a death-obsessed Humakti! picrew.me/en/image_mak...

I always thought Katrin Dirim’s illustration style was perfectly suited to RunQuest, and now she’s launched a character generator for endless creative madness. Gotta love it! Here’s my first shot at it:

Had my best game of The Anarchy yet. Really loving the solo campaign booklet. 😁

This usually results in lousy rolls but I don’t care bc it’s one of the precious few things I can do with any kind of style.

Okay these are my fave *settings* but not necessarily my fave games.

1. Glorantha (RuneQuest)

2. Alpha Complex (Paranoia)

3. Arkham/1920s Earth (Call of Cthulhu)

4. The Old West (Boot Hill)

5. Post-Apocalyptic North America (Gamma World)
What are your top 5 TTRPG settings? Here are the five I keep coming back to:

1) Doskvol, from Blades in the Dark
2) Vimary, from Tribe 8
3) Gloam, from Shadows over Driftchapel
4) Innistrad, from Magic: The Gathering
5) The Known World, from Artesia

There's a definite dark/gothic theme in there.

What’s Yog-Sothoth’s deal, anyway?

If the phrase “death by shock and blood loss is almost instantaneous” still makes you chuckle, you are my people.

Harmonies simply does not stop being great. The art, the vibes, the strategy — all great.

My friend and I started playing backgammon when we were in high school. Our kids are now high school aged or older. I love that the tiles and tables have remained a constant in our lives.

First time digging into The Anarchy and I’m loving it.

Had an awesome Call of Cthulhu session full of inter-dimensional mayhem that ended on a total cliff-hanger. I am sure my dude will die when we resume and join the graveyard of dead. PCs I’ve amassed over the years.🤣

My copy of The Anarchy arrived! Wooot!

Just did a monster Cosmic Encounter game with the first time-player winning as the amoeba. 🦠 I freaking love board games.

I started playing RPGs in 1979/80 as a kid, and kids like me never knew how much work early zines did to fill rules gaps and provide forums that helped shape the hobby. We just knew Dragon and White Dwarf and that was that. So reading these accounts is terrific insight.

We just spent a memorable week in Paris and one of my favorite things about the city is its metro system. A €2.50 ticket can take you virtually anywhere. So what better way to enjoy a glass of rosé in the apartment than with a game celebrating one of the world’s great subway systems?

While vacationing in Paris my wife and I walked past this bit of street art using one of our favorite classic board games. We I used to play marathon Scrabble sessions back in the day. Vive le France!🇫🇷

Funny RPG memory: early adventures didn’t need much set-up. The intros could be as simple as “an evil wizard is terrorizing the town.” That was enough for the party to say “let’s go kill monsters and take items.” Somewhere it was decided there needs to be way more preamble to justify going H.A.M.

Played the latest edition of Betrayal at House on the Hill for board game night. So fun! Even with three players this game is a riot. Fun mechanics, great theme, and RPG-style storytelling.

Sunday Cosmic Encounter! I will never stop loving this ridiculous, chaotic game. Had a great mix of alien abilities plus tech cards and artifacts. My youngest, purple, finally clinched a decisive victory.

Can’t… stop… playing… Harmonies… 😆

PS: Happy Easter!

My GMing style is basically Cory Booker runs a RuneQuest combat.
