If any of my websites or services go down, it's not going to be because of a bad config at Cloudflare or AWS.

It will be due to my own incompetence thankyouverymuch!

Fun story:
In the early-mid days of the Corona program, a redesign had Itek subcontracting the camera shutter.

But the sub didn't have security clearance. So they lubricated the shutters with talc. Itek engineers strongly recommended whale oilb(circa 1961), but couldn't tell them why.

I love the HR people at work (and just in general).

They're proud of their new form for travel/credit cards that they'll be done with in 1-2 weeks.

When it gets released, I guarantee there will be at least one spelling mistake, and tabbing through fillable fields will be out of order...

Here's a fun little tool created by Ham Vocke. It lets you create color schemes for your terminal based on cereals. Yes, like fruit loops and count chocula.

rootloops.sh

And check out his blog, although he doesn't post often. He's got a great tmux intro/tutorial. hamvocke.com

I'm divesting of ExpressVPN after more price hikes lately.

Going to uninstall it from my Windows machine, and realize that it's ~330MB!!!

Wireguard on Linux, wireguard-dkms + wireguard-tools + etc. is less than 2MB. This is why we can't have nice things.

Remember, everyone. The "S" in "IoT" stands for security.

A great example of my love/hate relationship with engineering.

A reddit r/askengineers thread:

Q: My schoolbus camper is great, but it nearly vibrates my family into jello at red lights while we're traveling. Is there an easy way to fix this?

A: Have you tried turning it off when stopped?

Happy belated birthday to the Patriot Missile program. 60 years ago (this past Monday) the Surface and Air Missile Development (SAM-D) office began development of Patriot. The world's most capable and most sought after interceptor the world has ever seen.

I feel like Luis Rossmann lately. This Dewalt DCS356 chose to use a very loose press fit to mate the drive head to the motor, and now it slips and is useless. Don't buy it!

So now I'm gluing them together with loctite. A $200 tool, and the OEM couldn't broach a hole? Or use a set screw? JFC...

This Logitech Marathon M705 mouse is 16 years old (literally released this day 2009, but I didn't grab it off the shelf until before Christmas). I just replaced the unifying receiver for the 2nd time, and have replaced both L and R micro switches once.

There's no way it could be DNS

At first I was mad at the seller of this house for leaving behind junk that I needed to donate/trash. But this cheap vacuum has been a great sacrificial lamb for my myriad drywall projects. This thing eats 40yr old ring shank nails for breakfast!

Planning some future electrical work, and got on the topic of smoke/CO detectors with my wife. This is what the previous owners did over the years. I can't even sometimes.

Just fixing up my new (to me) house on Black Friday. There are exactly zero shims on this door and window. And three same number of fasteners into the studs. Trim pieces are all that's held this entryway together since 1978...
