gOD I wish there was a magical trick to coloring traditional art. I yearn for the color range and simplicity, something I know how to do only with paints and obviously I can't carry my paints everywhere :D

Moving to clearer skies ⛅
Brown bear holding a blue vase against it's chest while lazily flying in the blue sky. Some clouds cover the upper left half of the image. The bear yawns. Its eyes are closed. Its tail is back half of a fish, an European perch perhaps, with its green tones and red-ish markings. Small fishbone wings emerge from the bear's back, proportionally a little small to the rest of its body. The background sky is done with markers with horisontal strokes that are clearly visible. Clouds are left unfilled and bold lining separates them from the blue color. Bear has minimal linework and is colored with pencilst. The strokes are quite visible, giving the bear extra texture and some form. Lighter golden tones highlights and the inside of its yawning mouth is pink-ish red.

Been fun trying out markers! I remember them being all the rage in my art circle when I was 12-15, never understood the mechanics back then 😅

Now it seems a little bit simpler :)

Tried my hand at markers, these were bf's ancient Copics and to my surprise all worked :0 interested in doodling some more! All the colors were really nice, there's more than these four.

Dog angry at some flies, since all the bugs have awoken at my workplace 😅
Grey fluffy dog or a wolf barking or making some kind of noise at two flies flying by its head. Drawn from behind, tail in the foreground swinging by. The animal is looking at the flies at the pages (A4) upper right corner. Dog's fur is grey with some light brown and tufts with warm tones of yellow, orange and pink. It's hard to tell if the bright colors are part of the fur color or maybe just colored by ambient light, like a sunset. Done with markers, mainly medium length pointed strokes with some flat and broader strokes here and there.

Observing the flow 🌊

Black markers on paper
View from ocean floor at an upwards angle. Done in black and white: the floor is bright, shaded with sparse dots and pretty continuous linework. The surface of the water is blacked out, not counting the completely white blobs presenting movement and light hitting the water and the linework of beginnings of waves rising up. On the foreground is a big rock on the right and another on the left a little further back. Tufts of thin seaweed grow and the rocks, they are reaching, flowing in the water to the right. Thicker, more vine like and singular seaweeds grow from the small pathway the rocks leave between them. Their movement isn't as drastic as the tufts' and their ends point more so towards the surface than to the right.

It's also drawn in a cartoony style, but a little more defined than the other simple doodles.

A pencil sketch of an anthro bear with a fish tail, walking in a forest from left to right. Side profile. The bear is gazing upwards. It seems pleased, judging by the tiniest smile. A branchy bush covers the forefront right and 1/3 of the image on the right is just empty while the left side is drawn onto. The image quality isn't the best, some of the pencil in the background dissapears because the brightness is blown out. But it adds a nice blurry tone to the scene.

Linework and hatching sketch done with a fine pointed black ink pen on a sketchbook page. On the center of the page there's a black beetle facing the viewer in a 3/4 profile with blue underside, peeking just a little from under it. The beetle is in front of some mushrooms, possibly chanterelles. Mushrooms are not filled, opposed to the beetle. A snap of a sketchbook page's corner, the main focus on a blue shiny beetle. Everything is sketched with coloured pencils. The beetle is facing away from the viewer. Under the beetle is a perch and in front of the perch are three chanterelles. Some sort of foliage is sketches behind the beetle.

Steering away from thoughts like this that clean means better, is something I've been trying to learn for myself.
It's funny how I'm always pulled towards art that has roughness and shows the human behind it, yet deny that from myself.

Rough is good. Mistakes are lovely. Art is a journey.

My partner, who went to school for animation and illustration, was talking about 101 Dalmatians, how beautiful it is, but how recent versions of it have been "cleaned up." We often talk about how making something "better" has come to mean making it look like a person didn't have a hand in making it.
