Interesting to see Mako Shark fillets in the local seafood counter today - note the price compared to Pink Ling and King Morwong 🤔

Australian Wooden Boat Festival 2025 in Hobart, Tasmania. A great place to: watch 🦞 lobster pots being made by hand, try under-rated seafood and see gorgeous Huon pine boats

Lucky enough to watch southern eagle rays (Myliobatis tenuicaudatus) in very shallow waters throughout the summer. Thankfully it’s a shark/ray nursery area.

It’s always interesting to hear how other jurisdictions manage their fisheries.

The North Pacific Seastar (Asterias amurensis) is an invasive pest in SE Australia. Primary mgmt is ad-hoc community clean ups. Some baited traps have been trialled. Has anyone found a viable use for this species? Any innovative trap design you’d like to share? 🌊⭐️

Interesting recreational #fisheries stats for 🦞 on Tasmania’s east coast. Opened 7th Dec, 3374 🦞 kept in 2 days. Tas is an interesting fishery as they can be taken by pot/hand (including scuba, hookah), there is a species-specific license, minimum size limit and both reporting/marking requirements.

Happy World #Fisheries Day 🐟🎣🍣
Let’s acknowledge & celebrate those who supply #sustainable & responsibly caught #seafood. When buying seafood, we recommend looking for the blue #MSC (wildcaught) or green #ASC (farmed) eco-labels. We also support & encourage those fisheries in improvement programs 👏
