There is a profound mischaracterization of what is currently being vilified as “DEI.” Let me be clear. DEI is de-segregation. If we had always only hired based on merit, we wouldn’t need DEI. It is not raising up the unqualified but instead removing the barricades that refused the qualified entry.

What do fantasy & romance novels have to do with the election?

As literature, they center women’s experience, joy, hope, community & possibility. By relegating them to “non-literary fiction” we are claiming these ideals are “not serious enough” and women’s experience not powerful enough to lead

When I was growing up, I was told if I worked hard enough and was smart enough, I could be anything I wanted to be - even President. I’m struggling with how to teach my daughters that message when - twice now - they’ve seen the smarter, harder-working, and more qualified woman lose the presidency.
