Recently returned from a vacation in Italy. Saw Rome, Florence (probably my favourite), Venice (incredible) and a small medieval town called Orvieto. It sits atop a volcanic tuff cliff, and has thousands of underground caves dating back thousands of years. Beautiful town.

It is not normal to have outbreaks of preventable diseases in wealthy countries.
It is not normal to have children dying from preventable diseases in wealthy countries.

This is the first US measles death in 10 years. There should be none.

Measles high infection rate is the reason we have not yet been able to eradicate it. That rate means you need a very high vaccination rate to prevent outbreaks. It is possible, but not with current levels of institutional distrust.
The average person with the flu gives it to around 1.4 people. The average person with measles gives it to between 12 and 18 people.
