Nice really impressed me when we visited earlier this year - so much new cycle infrastructure and pedestrianisation, and a really nice tram/metro system. And lots of new planting in the streets with tiny buses!

. @acarpen.bsky.social just noticed that the election results line up remarkably well with the BRMA map you shared in your local government reform post. I’m guessing Newmarket would be yellow as well if it were included! @philrodgers.co.uk

Here’s a great example from Scotland of what can be done. People got wind of an immigration enforcement van and physically blocked it until they gave up. Think someone even got underneath it.

Just heading back from Nice, France and they’ve clearly been going hell for leather recently on public transport, cycling, and pedestrianisation recently - and it’s not just quick wins, there’s really high quality work being done.

Frankly I thought the last 14 years had proved all this quite comprehensively. God knows what Labour is doing at this point.

Switzerland is always a good example, but also what the Spanish have been up to is seriously impressive. Their HSR routes seem to be a huge series of bridges and tunnels and they’ve built them quickly… railway-news.com/wp-content/u...

We have a new Dutch roundabout in Cambridge, which is great, but it does look quite absurd at night with all the flashing lights that are currently required.

It feels like these could be useful as short 5-15 person shuttles that get people to more “mainline” bus routes - there are similar conventional vehicles that are used for that, but presumably have to be full to cover costs. Driverless might be better in quieter areas?

Also also, there’s a number of medical exemption classes which allows even more free access by car. And with reduced traffic, people with these exceptions will waste less time if they do need to drive.

I immediately thought of FAB 1 from Thunderbirds - just needs two more front wheels and some rocket launchers.
