Ornery, ancient, curious. Chicagoan in exile in Indiana. Politically engaged since 1964 and now in (how can it possibly be?) 2025, I can say with confidence, this is every bit as bad as you think.
There's plenty more, of course. It was a different kind of crazy and much, much blood was shed. The Civil Rights movement was terrifying. The lynching of Emmitt Till in 1955, the later assassination of Medgar Evers, the terrorism in the Jim Crow south during Freedom Summer and so, so much more. /

Yes, it is a good article and from CNN, too. I live in Indiana and in the district Sen Greg Goode represents. He did a townhall before the IN House vote and overwhelmingly got his lunch handed to him by the voters. #HoosiersDon'tCheat was the rallying call here.

This is the wisest take not only on yesterday's results but on all our current politics that I've read today. That the simulation cannot hold against reality should be easy to grasp but it is so often just out of reach. Thanks for letting us grab onto it. Bravo!!!
