Just a reminder to check for your name in this list of books that OpenAI trained from. If your name is there, they probably owe you several thousand dollars.

OpenAI cried that if everyone eligible author files, the company will go bankrupt, so I'm alerting every author I have ever spoken to.

The Bible commands us to set up cities of refuge--

to protect people who didn't mean to cause harm from those who wished to enact communal violence upon them.

The Rabbis ensured that due process happened there.

Never again is now.

Come learn the ancient wisdom we need desperately today:
cities of refuge
sanctuary

I'll say it over and over.

I do not believe in gate keeping.

I do not believe in pulling up the ladder.

I believe in kicking the wall down like the Kool-Aid man, and making room as I go for those who come next.

Just because it was hard for me, doesn't mean it has to be hard for anyone else.

NGL I shed a few tears as I passed her off into the capable hands of my editor this morning 🥹 Six chapters, just over 45,000 words, and so much of myself poured into this beautiful book over the past 7 months 💜 I’m so proud and excited to share her with the world SOON!!!!

Closed out Spring 2025 with graduation today, now heading into an uncertain sabbatical. This semester has been really something. 4 classes + a directed study taught, 4 book chapters written, a daily search for joy in a terrible time. Grateful for students, colleagues, friends, family along the way 💜

Y’all come out and join me and the rest of Nashville in Harmony this June! We’ll be doing our part to sing some TRUE southern hospitality into being. Lots of new compositions from local artists, as well as original poetry from choir members, including one co-written by me and the kiddos 🥹🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

🔥🔥🔥 speaker roster from Nashville’s Transgender Day of Visibility celebration. W and a couple other choir members shared a bit about Major Minors … I unfortunately had to miss that particular part because I was across town picking up B from theater rehearsal. Still so proud of them 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

Celebrate Trans Day of Visibility this weekend by contributing to the flourishing and joy of trans and queer youth 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Option 1: donate to the Major/Minor choir as whole, and/or specifically in support of my kiddo, as they are set to perform at WorldPride in May 🎶 Any amount helps!

Find yourself a community that remembers a random social media post from a year ago that your late mom used to get you daffodils for your birthday, and then surprises you with a bouquet at Sunday service 🥹

Treasures from today: meditating at the shoreline with my older kiddo, and digging through sand banks with my younger while discussing how nature helps us connect to God/the Divine/the Universe/our own spirituality ✨

A rare calm in the midst of a wild stressful storm. Book manuscript is over halfway done (!!!); we have a snow day tomorrow and my classes have a small group work day on Thursday, so no more teaching this week; no energy left for relocation research rn. Just going to take a little break + breathe 😮‍💨

Today we celebrated love. Fierce, revolutionary, defiant love that cheers on all of us growing into our most authentic selves. Alec and I grabbed lunch together, and the whole family had a BLAST seeing &Juliet tonight … an amazing inclusive funny sweet show! Poem by M Jade Kaiser of Enfleshed 🏳️‍⚧️💜🏳️‍🌈

Been spending time lately writing my chapter on lament songs and finishing up my current embroidery project. the reminder of “progress over perfection,” and the transformative power of rage and grief have both felt therapeutic in their own ways. 🖼️ by The Bible Project

Our wise pastor gave us homework for making it through the long haul: find something beautiful each day; each week do something that brings you joy; ea h week reach out to encourage or check on someone else. I started with yin yoga in the backyard and a Broadway show with some awesome badass women 🤩

It’s a heavy time. AND. Today a queer student who was kicked out of church at age 12 thanked me for teaching a course that she loved, even though she’d been terrified to take it. We make art. We breathe deeply. My kids know they are fully loved, deep in their bones. Keep doing the good work friends💜

Spending this Monday writing about lament songs, while wearing blue in solidarity with Antioch High School teachers, staff, and students who are heading back to school this week while still processing last week’s violence and trauma. How long, O Lord, how long?
